ABOUT MARIKO
10% of proceeds from prints go to these conservation organisations
From music executive working with artists like Sir Paul McCartney and Placido Domingo, to conservation photographer and sustainable tourism consultant traversing wild habitats in far flung places. A more unconventional path could not have been imagined for this Canadian kid growing up in the great outdoors of the Far North.
My passion for the animal kingdom took root from a family history in Africa which eventually brought me to the continent as an adult in search of experience with big cats. It wasn’t until I spent time in the bush that I learned of the significant conservation challenges facing some of our most iconic species, and realised the potential of sustainable tourism as an ally to wildlife conservation.
I knew then that my place was in service to the natural world.
So what do I do?
My services in conservation cross several sectors: sustainable tourism planning, photography and journalism.
I collaborate with destinations on tourism solutions that protect wildlife and support people.
I photograph some of the world's most charismatic species with the hope that their beauty and dignity will move people to action.
I write about issues on animal welfare in international tourism so that we may work toward a kinder and more humane captive wildlife travel industry.
I obtained my Master of Science at New York University in Manhattan where I guest lecture on the subject of successful sustainable wildlife tourism models around the world.
To further support global conservation efforts, 10% of proceeds from my photographic prints go to the following organisations:
